Hydrogen law comes into effect

Japan’s Hydrogen Society Promotion Act has come into effect after the law was passed by parliament in May. The effective date of October 23 is earlier than the promised November target.

The revised JOGMEC Act came into effect on the same day as part of the country’s efforts towards carbon neutrality by 2050. Japan Organization for Metals & Energy Security, JOGMEC, was put in charge of the “support focusing on the price gap”, the contract for difference scheme, and “support for the development of hubs” or the Hub support scheme. These are support measures to provide subsidies for funds to set up a supply chain for low-carbon hydrogen and its derivatives.
